WEG was the best ranked company in the 17th edition of Exame Sustainability Guide 2016 in the Capital Goods sector. The research methodology and the data analysis were carried out by the Center for Sustainability Studies of Getúlio Vargas Foundation in partnership with the Exame Magazine.
Created in 2000, the Exame Sustainability Guide highlights the best practices of corporate responsibility in the country by classifying the participating companies according to the score in four different dimensions: overall, economic, social and environmental aspects.
WEG was ranked as the winner in the Capital Goods sector, with scores above average on six different indicators: human rights, water management, waste management, biodiversity management, sustainability governance and interaction with the community.
One of the WEG programs that was distinguished by Exame Sustainability Guide 2016 was the replacement of old industrial electric motors by high efficiency motors, which saved enough energy to provide electricity to 300,000 homes. "In addition to the efficient use of natural resources in our production lines, we are continuously investing in research and development of more efficient electrical equipment and offer renewable energy generation solutions. Since 2009 we have served over 1300 customers, replaced 73,713 electric motors, and generated an average saving of 12.42% in electricity consumption for these customers, "says Harry Schmelzer Jr, CEO of WEG.
The award ceremony was held on November 28, 2016 at Tivoli Mofarrej Hotel in São Paulo and was hosted by WEG's Human Resources Director, Hilton José da Veiga Faria and the Sales Director of the Automation Division, Hélcio Makoto.
WEG is one of 13 Brazilian companies selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index Emerging Markets 2016.
Conducted by Institutional Investor magazine, the award program selects the best CEOs, CFOs, programs, teams and investor relations professionals (IR), and IR best websites and best annual meetings with analysts.
